Filling in the facts about the CDCP
The CDCP is a dental benefit administered by Health Canada. It is not a free dental program.
Members may have a co-payment or other charges the CDCP does not cover.
Not all dental services are covered under the CDCP.
Some services and frequency exceptions require preauthorization before treatment.
Confirm that your coverage is active and ask about estimated out-of-pocket costs before care.
Co-Payment by Family Net Income
Patients will be required to make a co-payment — that is, pay for a portion of their dental care under the CDCP — depending on their adjusted family net income.
No co-payment of the CDCP benefit for those with an adjusted annual family net income under $70,000.
A 40 per cent co-payment of the CDCP benefit for those with an adjusted annual family net income between $70,000 and $79,999.
A 60 per cent co-payment of the CDCP benefit for those with an adjusted annual family net income between $80,000 and $89,999.

Frequently Asked Questions
Applications are open for the 2026–2027 benefit period. Check all four eligibility requirements and apply through the official Canadian Dental Care Plan service at canada.ca/dental. Service Canada determines eligibility; the dental office cannot enrol a patient in the plan.
The CDCP may help pay for eligible diagnostic, preventive, restorative, endodontic, periodontal, prosthodontic and oral-surgery services. Some services require preauthorization, frequency limits apply, and orthodontic services are not currently available under the plan. Coverage is determined under current CDCP rules and fees.
You may still qualify if you have dental coverage through a provincial, territorial or federal government social program and meet the other CDCP requirements. The programs may coordinate benefits to avoid duplicate payment.
Private coverage includes dental benefits or health spending accounts available through your work, pension, a family member, a professional or student organization, or a plan purchased by you or a family member. Being offered access can make you ineligible even if you did not enrol or have never used the plan. Check the official eligibility rules for the limited pension exception.
No. The CDCP is intended for eligible residents without access to private dental coverage. Opting out or choosing not to enrol in an available private plan generally does not make you eligible for CDCP.
Book eligible care on or after the coverage start date provided for the member. Before the first visit, confirm that coverage is active and know the member ID and co-payment level. Coverage must be renewed annually.
Not always. The CDCP reimburses eligible services using its own established fees. You may owe an income-based co-payment, any difference between the clinic fee and the CDCP fee, and the cost of services the plan does not cover. Ask for an estimate before treatment.
Bring your CDCP member ID, identification, coverage start date and co-payment information. Tell us that you intend to use CDCP benefits when booking so the team can verify the information needed for an estimate and claim.
